Yoga is an ancient healing system or philosophy that involves integration of the physical and spiritual to achieve a sense of wellbeing.
The word Yoga means “to unite” and this
can be described in spiritual terms as the union of
individual conciousness with universal conciousness.
On a practical level Yoga is a way to balance and harmonise
body, mind and emotions.
This is done through practice of postures (Asana) that
strengthen, tone and release tension in the body, breathing
practices (Pranayama) to cleanse and nourish the body
and promote calm, and meditative practices to quieten
and still body and mind.
Most people come to Yoga class for a physical reason but soon find that they are benefiting from the deep relaxation and release that comes from the practice.
Yoga is about yourself, your own body and being. It
is an opportunity to be with oneself, to explore and
have fun with movement and to find inner peace.
Yoga is completely non-competitive.
