The Land

An Sanctoir is situated on 23 acres of mixed land
which includes rocky outcrops, wetland, river, woodland,
meadow, rough land, bog and pasture as well as hedgerows
and garden.
The land has been dedicated mainly to nature conservation and offers a beautiful and varied trail through diverse habitats.
It is our desire to grow food in a healthy and balanced way, working with the natural environment whilst learning and enjoying the experience as a community.
Through observing the surrounding environment, we discover the relationships between plant life and micro climate, and base our approach and design accordingly. The forest garden is evolving through workshops and workdays, and includes an amphitheatre space for group activities and paths accessible for wheelchair users.
Other aspirations for land use include: orchards; nut plantations; coppice; and a community kitchen garden with an educational focus.
As we develop the land for human use we are also committed
to holding the principles of deep ecology, remembering
that we are a part of our environment, and not separate
from or superior to it.
